Howard county’s story of education, little many prairie counties, starts with the one-room prairie schoolhouses that dotted the count from corner to corner. These one-room schoolhouses could be located within a few miles of each other, and often only serviced just a few families with large number of children. These circumstances helped lead to a total of 80 one-room schoolhouses in Howard County at the peak of early pioneer education.
